Question:

• How do I change my email address to first.last@(my.)metrostate.edu?

Answer:

• The Minnesota State email system gives a single student or employee mailbox, StarID@(go.)minnstate.edu
• Each college or university assigns an email address to the mailbox for their institution, first.last@(my.)metrostate.edu
• If you have more than one email address from different institutions, one must be set as the primary. The primary email address is what shows in the 'From' field in your emails.
• All email addresses assigned to your account will arrive at your student/employee mailbox. 
• Your Metro State email will need to be selected as your 'Primary' email address to become the email address displayed on all email you send.
• The primary email address will need to be changed after a Legal Name Change or if your email address has the old format of StarID@(go.)metrostate.edu

Your primary email is the address displayed as your FROM: address on all email.

Steps:

• Step 1) Go to starid.minnstate.edu and select Sign into Profile.

• Step 2) Log in with your StarID and StarID password.
• Step 3) Select the Office 365 Contact tab and then select Contact Card.
  • Note: You do not need to do anything if your contact primary email is already set to the following:
    • Employees: first.last@metrostate.edu
    • Students: first.last@my.metrostate.edu
  • If the primary email is set to something different than listed above, continue with step 4.

• Step 4) Select a new primary email. The primary email selected also determines the default institution. IMPORTANT: This change will not take effect until the next day.
  • If you are an Employee:
    • Click on 'Select New Employee Contact Card' and select your Metro State email address:
    • first.last@metrostate.edu
  • If you are a Student:
    • Click on Select New Student Contact Card and select your Metro State email address:
    • first.last@my.metrostate.edu
