Cisco IP Phone: Forwarding Calls to Another Number

Before you begin

Before you begin set up to forward calls to your mobile phone number please read the following information:

  • If you are forwarding calls to a mobile phone number with a prefix of: 651, 612, 763 or 952, the phone number is considered a local number and you are ready to continue with the instruction steps below.
  • If you are forwarding calls to a mobile phone number which DOES NOT have a local prefix of 651, 612, 763 or 952 before you use the steps below to setup call forwarding you will need to first submit a request for Long distance call forwarding this will allow IT to enable long distance call forwarding capability to work with your long distance number. Once you receive IT ticket communication that your request has been fulfilled you are ready to complete the steps for call forwarding.

Instructions to forward calls from your desk phone

  • If you are working remotely use the instructions to forward calls using the Self-Care phone portal instructions included in the next section.
  • Step 1) First, read the Before you begin section directly above.
  • Step 2) From your desk phone select "Forward All"; the bottom right option on your phone screen.
  • Step 3) Dial the number you would like all calls forwarded too
    • You must dial 9-1 and then the full 10 digit number
  • Step 4) You can also forward calls directly to your voicemail by simply dialing 4567
  • Step 5) To turn off call forwarding select "Forward Off"; the bottom right option on your phone screen.

Instruction Steps:

  • For security purposes, the voicemail web system is available only through a university provided network connection.
  • To access Self-Care off-campus from a university issued laptop, you will need to be connected through the VPN
  • Step 1) First, read the Before you begin section above.
  • Step 2) Navigate to the self-care phone portal at: www.metrostate.edu/phone
  • Step 3) Log in using your StarID credentials.
  • Step 4) From the left navigation select Call Forwarding and select the checkmark box next to Forward all calls to.

  • Step 5) Forwarding calls to work Voicemail or to your mobile phone:
    • To forward all calls to work voicemail select Voicemail from the drop down menu and select Save. You have now completed the steps to forward calls to voicemail. Make sure to test your forward setting.
    • To forward all calls to your mobile phone select Add a new number from the drop down menu.
    • You must enter 9-1 and then the full 10 digit number, for example: 916121231234, then select Save.
      • Make sure to test your forward setting. Should you find your forward setting doesn't work/you receive the busy signal please refer to the special note section above.
      • If you do not have a local area code you will want to uncheck call forwarding until you have submitted a long distance forward request and the request is completed before using these instructions to set up call forwarding.

  • Step 6) To turn off call forwarding, from the left navigation select Call Forwarding and uncheck the box next to Forward all calls to and select Save.
