  • Starting Monday, November 11, 2019, how do I setup Outlook desktop client on my university owned computer?

Answer:

  • Starting Monday, November 11th, 2019, you will need to update Outlook desktop client with your new login information on your university owned computer using the instructions below.

Once your user name has been updated it may take up to 24 hours for it to take effect across all Office 365 (O365) Services.  After the change has taken effect, you will have to sign into Outlook and other O365 services with the updated user name.  Following are directions for changing your user name within desktop applications.


Instructions for setting up Outlook desktop client for Windows on university owned devices.

Steps:

  • Step 1) If after starting your PC for the first time after your username has changed to MinnState the login and you are automatically prompted for your Outlook credentials go to Step 2 below.  If your device is a university owned computer and you are not automatically prompted for Outlook login credentials go to step 1b located towards the bottom.
  • Step 2) Enter your email address
    • Employees: first.last@metrostate.edu
    • Students: first.last@my.metrostate.edu

  • Step 3) Enter your MinnState username:
    • Employees: StarID@minnstate.edu
    • Students: StarID@go.minnstate.edu
  • Select Remember my credentials to save credentials.
  • Enter your StarID password.
  • It may take some time to update all your Outlook folders. You can view the status located at the bottom right of the Outlook window.


Step 1b)

  • Use the following instructions if you are:
    • On-campus
    • Off-campus but currently connected thru VPN.
  • Note: If you are off-campus and are not connected through VPN you can access your email here and until you are able to setup the Outlook desktop client on-campus.
  • Step A) Make sure Outlook desktop client is closed.
  • Step B) In Windows search field, type "software center", then click on Software Center application icon.

  • Step C) Click on, Migrate Outlook profile in the Applications list.
  • Step D) Once the install has completed you will be prompted for Outlook login credentials. Complete steps #2 & #3 above.
