Webex Calling: FAQs

What will I use Webex calling for?

Webex will be used for making phone calls and accessing voicemail.
For Jabber users, Webex will replace Jabber (refer to questions 12 & 13).

How do I log into Webex?

Use StarID@minnstate.edu (e.g. ab1234cd@minnstate.edu) to log into Webex.

Can I use the Webex calendar and meeting functions?

No. Please continue to use the Microsoft Outlook calendar, Microsoft Teams messaging/meetings, and Zoom meetings.
The Webex calendar syncs with Microsoft Outlook calendar and will display a notification reminder 5 minutes prior to scheduled Outlook meetings.

Do I need to dial 9 to make calls outside of Metro State?

Dialing a 9 is no longer required to make an outside call.

How will calling 911 work in WebEx?

Dial 911.

Will voicemail continue to be delivered to my Metro State email?

Yes! Once you have set up Webex, voicemail to email functionality will work.
Your voicemail delivered to email will now include text transcription - a new feature.

How do I set up my new voicemail?

You will need to set up and record your name and new greeting for Webex voicemail. For details, see Webex Calling Setup Guide

When I delete an Outlook voicemail email, does this sync with Webex?

No. If you delete a voicemail email, the voicemail message will remain in Webex. The voicemail will need to be deleted from Webex. 

Will my desk phone function differently?

You may notice slight changes, for instance on how the options are arranged displayed from your phone screen. your phone display.

We have a general department phone number that several people have access to and answer calls. Will any of that change?

No. that department number will still function the same as it has in the past.

What will happen to Cisco Jabber?

Cisco Jabber will be disabled sometime next year.

What will happen to any saved calls in Cisco Jabber?

Any voicemail previously saved in Jabber will remain intact until Jabber goes away. It is recommended that anyone with saved voicemails document the contents and remove them from Jabber.

How do I send and receive Faxes?

Is there a mobile app I can install?

Yes, there is a WebEx Calling mobile app for Android and Apple mobile phones. You may choose to install that on your mobile phone, but it is not required.

Can all StarID accounts connect with WebEx?

You must have have a StarID employee account (i.e. StarID@minnstate.edu).
