What is my Metro State email address?
- Your Metro State email address uses your first and last name and follows the format: first.last@my.metrostate.edu
- If there is more than one student with the same name, a period and number is added in the format: first.last.#@my.metrostate.edu
- Your email address is what others use to send you an email and what others see when you send them an email.
- Your email address is different than your email login (for email login refer to section below).
What is my Metro State email login?
- Your Metro State email login uses your StarID and follows the format: StarID@go.minnstate.edu; also known as your MinnState login
- Your email login is different than your email address (for email address refer to section above).

- Password: StarID password
What is my StarID?
- StarID is used across all Minnesota State institutions. StarID is never duplicated and never re-assigned
- Once a StarID is issued, it can be used over the lifetime of a relationship with Minnesota State, even if you move from one institution within MinnState to another.

- A StarID is 2 letters - 4 numbers - 2 letters. For example, ab1234cd
- Your StarID is used to access many systems including D2L, eServices, and Metro State computers
How do I reset my StarID password?
- Your StarID password must be reset using the StarID Self Service site https://starid.minnstate.edu.
- Note: You cannot use the password reset on Microsoft's login page
- The most efficient way to reset your password is with a personal email address that is associated with your StarID. Otherwise, you can use your Tech ID or call the Service Center at 651-793-1240 during Service Center hours.
- After the reset, eServices and D2L will be accessible immediately while Student Email (Microsoft 365) will have a delay up to 30 minutes
- To Reset StarID Password:
- Go to StarID Self Service at https://starid.minnstate.edu
- Click “Reset my Password" link
- Click on the option “I know my email.” You will need to use your personal email address (such as a Gmail, Yahoo, etc.) to obtain a verification code. Do NOT use your Metropolitan State University email.
- Enter the verification code sent to your personal email as well as your last name.
- Set a new password
- Log in to your student email here (REMINDER: this can take 30 minutes to sync after the reset)
MFA - Multi-Factor Authentication
- Multi-factor authentication is an additional form of authentication which provides an added layer of account protection, beyond just your password

- New students are required to set up MFA before logging into their Metro State email
- If you are transferring from another MinnState institution, you do not need to setup MFA again
- Your StarID and student MFA setup are the same across all MinnState institutions
- If you are both a student and employee, you will need to set up MFA on both your student account and your employee account.
Metro State Student ID Card
Door Access
- Door access is available 30 minutes after the ID card is created
Parking Ramp Access (St. Paul campus)
- To access the parking ramp, the student must be enrolled in a class for the current semester
- Parking access is available fourteen (14) days prior to the first day of the semester
- Parking access remains available seven (7) days after the last day of the semester
Parking Ramp Access (Minneapolis campus)
- Access to the Minneapolis parking ramp will be granted Next Day from when the card was printed
Printing
- Printing at campus printers will be available 60 minutes after the card is created
Changing Primary email address to Metro State
- If you attend or have attended multiple Minnesota State institutions, each institution has its own email address.
- For example, you attended Hennepin Tech and now attend Metro State, you will have student@my.metrostate.edu and student@my.hennepintech.edu
- All email addresses assigned to you from a MinnState institution are associated with one email account, which you sign into with StarID@go.minnstate.edu
- When you assign Metro State as your primary email address, it will become the default email address displayed on email that you send to other people.
- To Select Metro State as your Primary email address
- Go to https://starid.minnstate.edu
- Select Sign in to Profile and use your StarID and StarID password
- Select the Office 365 Contact tab
- Select Select New Contact Card and select your Metro State email address
- It will take 24 hours for the change to take effect.
Connect to Wi-Fi
- All Metro State campuses use the eduroam network, a secure Wi-Fi connection for all your devices
- To sign in to the network, select eduroam and use the following login information:
- Username: Metro State Email Address (first.last@my.metrostate.edu)
- Password: StarID password
D2L - Brightspace
- All students that have registered for a class have access to D2L on the first day of the semester (for most classes).
- To login to D2L:
- Go to D2L Brightspace *consider bookmarking this site
- Use your StarID and password
- It is recommended to use a computer/laptop and the Chrome browser
- A mobile device will have limited visibility and functionality in D2L
- If you have any issues logging into D2L, please reset your StarID password, instructions: reset StarID password
- If you have issues with Zoom, email, eServices, or web conferencing, contact the Metro State IET Service Center
eServices
- As a student, eServices is the site to go for managing your student record, register for courses, access unofficial transcripts, check financial aid, and pay bills.
- To login to eServices
- Go to eServices *consider bookmarking this site
- Use your StarID and password to log in
- If you are unable to log in to eServices, reset the StarID password by following the instructions for resetting your StarID password
- If you have trouble completing forms, contact Gateway Student Services at 651-793-1300 Option 5
Library
- The Metro State Library is open to fulfill the information needs and foster the intellectual growth of the Metro State community
- The hours are posted for the Library and the resources available there
- Go to https://www.metrostate.edu and click on Current Students then Library.
LinkedIn Learning
- Any student or faculty can access training within LinkedIn Learning using their MinnState credentials

Microsoft OneDrive
- OneDrive is the Microsoft cloud storage service that allows you to store, share and access files from anywhere on any device
- Sign in to the OneDrive app on your computer to access your files offline
- To access your files online
- Go to https://office.com *consider bookmarking this site
- Use credentials:
- Username: StarID@go.minnstate.edu
- Password: StarID password
- Select the app launcher at the top left
- Select OneDrive
Virtual Lab (VDI)
- Metro State students have access to the Virtual Lab from a Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, or Chromebook device with high speed Internet
- Do Not save files to the Virtual Lab environment, they will be deleted when you sign out
- Instructions to access and Install the VMware Horizon Client
Zoom
- Zoom web conferencing is available for video and audio support
- Students can participate in Zoom meetings
- To attend class, you must be logged in with your school credentials as noted below

- Use your StarID and Password to sign in
- Download the Zoom client by clicking Resources then Download Zoom Client
- Open the Zoom client. Select Sign In, then select Sign In with SSO
- If you are prompted for Company Domain, enter "minnstate", then select Continue
- Use your StarID and Password to sign in.
