- This article provides important technology-related reminders and resource checklist to help you get back up and running when you return to campus.
Reminders: Bring with you
- Metropolitan State University ID card for:
- Parking ramp
- Printing
- Library resources
- Door access
- University Technology Hardware Devices and Equipment
- Bring any technology equipment you have previously taken home to work remotely that you will need to enable you to perform your work on-campus.
- This includes, but is not limited, to laptops, tablets, monitors, power, connection and ethernet cables, adapters, extenders, docking stations, keyboards, mice, headsets, webcams, microphones and more.
- Institutional Effectiveness and Technology (IET) is limited in technology hardware equipment inventory to support all work spaces and setup for both on-campus office setup and remote/home setup. Currently, one setup of workstation equipment is provided. If working a hybrid schedule, please work with your supervisor on how to best accommodate multiple work locations.
Reminder: Changing Between Work Locations (remote / on-campus)
Tips:
- When you have completed work at home/remote, make sure to shut down your computer before you anticipate coming to campus.
- For a smooth transition, after returning to campus for the first time, it it is important to do an initial start-up of your computer with a wired connection. Rebooting your computer when connected to an Ethernet wired connection will help avoid and resolve problems with network connected resources, like eduroam wireless, printing, etc.
- Remember when you are on-campus you will not need to connect to VPN.
Instructions:
- Please follow the instructions below for your respective computer setup (docking station setup or setup without docking station) for guidance on checking your setup before you reboot your computer.
- Figure 1) Phone Ports: reference for instructions that follow below
- Phone LAN Port is used for connection plugged into the wall port
- Phone PC port is used for connection to either a docking station or direct connection to a computer
Please follow steps below for your respective on-campus office setup to reboot your computer
- a) Docking Station Setup:
- Step 1) First, if your computer is in a locked or sleep state make sure you fully shut down your computer before proceeding to the next steps.
- Step 2) Ensure your laptop is plugged into the docking station
- Step 3) Ensure your docking station is plugged into the Phone PC port (fig. 1)
- Step 4) Ensure your Phone LAN port is plugged into the wall port (fig. 1)
- Step 5) Power on your computer
- b) Setup without a docking station:
- Step 1) First, if your computer is in a locked or sleep state make sure you fully shut down your computer before proceeding to the next steps.
- Step 2) Ensure your Ethernet cable is plugged into your computer
- Step 3) Ensure the other end of the Ethernet cable is plugged into the Phone PC Port (fig. 1)
- Step 4) Ensure your Phone LAN port is plugged into the wall port (fig. 1)
- Step 5) Power on your computer
