Question:
- How can faculty add test timing accommodations for students for all quizzes in a D2L Brightspace course at one time?
Answer:
This article is intended for faculty. If you are a student with questions about accommodations, reach out to the Center for Accessibility Resources. If you are a student with questions about D2L, see D2L Brightspace or get help here.
Faculty can give students alternate quiz timing accommodations for all quizzes in a D2L Brightspace course at one time using the Classlist accommodations tool. This method lets faculty make one change per student and it applies to all quizzes in the course for accommodations where the students gets a multiple of the existing time limit or a fixed additional time, e.g. 1.5 times the time limit or 30 extra minutes. If the student and faculty arrange something this tool can't address, e.g. additional time on only some quizzes like those with multiple choice questions, then this can still be accomplished with the special access tool. Note: if special access is set up for a given quiz, it overrides the accommodations settings. For example, if a given student had a 2x timing accommodation applied in the classlist, but special access was also applied with a different time limit for a given quiz, the student would have the time specified in the special access.
Step by step instructions:
- Go to Communications > Classlist:
- Select the context menu arrow next to your student’s name to open their context menu, then select “Edit accommodations”:
- Select the check box for “Modify Time Limit,” and the radio button for "Multiplier of original quiz time," then enter the multiplier, such as 1.5 or 2, then select Save:
- Note there is now an icon next to the student’s name in the classlist indicating accommodations have been applied:
