Summary:

  • The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) is the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing data related to education in the U.S. and other nations.
    NCES is located within the U.S. Department of Education and the Institute of Education Sciences. NCES fulfills a Congressional mandate to collect, collate, analyze, and report complete statistics on the condition of American education; conduct and publish reports; and review and report on education activities internationally.   • The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) is a system of surveys designed to collect data from all primary providers of post secondary education. IPEDS is a single, comprehensive system designed to encompass all institutions and educational organizations whose primary purpose is to provide postsecondary education. IPEDS is the core post secondary education data collection program within the U.S. Department of Education, and it is sponsored by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). The IPEDS system is built around a series of interrelated surveys to collect institution-level data in such areas as enrollments, program completions, faculty, staff, finances, and academic
