How To

Question:

  • It is 1-2 weeks before my online or hybrid class starts, what can I do to set myself up for success?

Steps:

  1. Determine your online readiness

    • Your learning preferences or study habits may or may not be a good fit for online courses. Talk with your advisor about how to be successful in an online class.

  2. Access your university email regularly

    • Students are required to access and use their StarID email account for all official University communications, including online course communications to and from your online instructor.

  3. Run a computer system check against requirements defined by D2L Brightspace.

    • Verify that your computer meets the technology requirements for taking online courses

  4. Log into D2L Brightspace

    • Log into D2L with your StarID and Password before the semester starts. Your online course(s) will appear on D2L after you register for classes. However, your course(s) will not be accessible until the first day of the semester.

  5. Learn to navigate D2L

    • D2L has many tools to aid in learning. It is important to understand navigation within the tools as you will look to participate in discussions, take quizzes, and submit papers.

  6. Purchase your textbooks

    • Get your books before class starts! You can purchase your textbooks, pay for them and have them mailed to your home address through the online Metropolitan State bookstore.
