Provisioning your MediaSpace Account
All students, staff, and faculty have the ability to create and use a Kaltura MediaSpace account.
- Go to MediaSpace (mediaspace.minnstate.edu)
- Log in with your StarID (only) and password
Once you have logged in, your account has been provisioned. You can store your videos and easily share your videos from MediaSpace.
MediaSpace Resources
- See MinnState's About Kaltura Mediaspace (KA #1733) (requires using your Microsoft login).
- For more about Kaltura's Express Capture, visit their knowledge center. Express Capture allows you to create videos, however, we recommend the use of Zoom for recording videos as the consistency across the different operating systems and mobile platforms make it an easier product to use and support.
Recording your Presentation using Zoom
One option available to you as a student, staff, or faculty is to record your presentation sharing your screen and/or camera.
To record in Zoom:
- Go to Zoom (minnstate.zoom.us)
- Select the Host button
- Log in with your StarID (only) and password
- Take the time to set up your PowerPoint. When you are ready, from Zoom, use the green Share button at the bottom center of Zoom or use the keyboard shortcut: Alt+Shift+S (PC) or Command⌘+Shift⇧+S (Mac).
- From the Share window, you can select a Screen, it will show EVERYTHING on your screen, or,
- From the Share window, select your PowerPoint presentation. This option will only share your presentation.
- If your shared content has audio within (perhaps a video clip within your PowerPoint), make sure to select the Share sound in Options.
- Once you are set up and ready to record, select Record from the menu bar. Most likely, if you are sharing your screen, it will be within the More (ellipses) dropdown.
- It is important you select "Record to the cloud." Short cuts are Alt + C on PC or Command⌘+Shift⇧+C on Mac.
- Upon completion of the recording, simply use the same short cut again (in step 6) to quit recording.
- Close out of Zoom when done. When Zoom is closed the video will be processed in Zoom. Once processing is complete, Zoom will send a copy of the recording to your MediaSpace account.
Please note, if you skipped provisioning your MediaSpace account, the Zoom video will not transfer.
You will receive an email in your Metro State email account from Zoom when your video has processed through Zoom. You will receive an email notification about captions being completed through Zoom. Finally, you will also receive an email from Kaltura saying your video is processed in MediaSpace. It is at this point, you can move on to sharing your recording.

Creating a video from PowerPoint
To start, you will need to narrate your presentation. There a couple different ways to narrate a PowerPoint. Once the narrations are created, you can export your PowerPoint in video format (mp4) and upload it to MediaSpace for sharing.
Create a recording from the beginning
- Select Record from the menu ribbon and then select From Beginning.
- Follow on-screen prompts to start recording
Record audio on each slide
- Select Insert on the menu bar and then select Audio
- Select Record Audio. Here you can record the audio for just the slide
- Complete all the slides that need audio
Import audio from your computer
- Using your own audio recording solution, you can embed mp3s or wav files into PowerPoint.
- Select Insert on the menu bar and then select Audio
- Select Audio on my PC (Audio from File... on Mac)
What may be necessary with this option is to enter times manually for slides.
- Select the audio icon.
- Find the length of time the audio is.
- This is done by either hovering your mouse over the time line that will present it self on selecting the audio icon
- OR, play the audio and find the time displayed at the end of the audio
- On that slide then, on the Transitions tab, place a check mark in After and enter the time needed for the slide: minutes:seconds.milliseconds
Hiding your audio icon for the presentation
The audio icon is normally placed in the center of the slide, however you do not want to display that icon in a video of your slides. You could drag the icon off the slide or use a hide feature. To hide your icon during the slide presentation:
- Select the audio icon (shown above) on the slide
- On the navigation bar, select Playback
- Place a check mark in "Hide During Show"
Exporting your Presentation to Video
- Select File
- Select Export
- Select Create a Video
- Choose video quality
- Select Use Recorded Timings and Narrations
- Select Create Video
- A pop-up window will appear, allowing you to choose where to save the export. Name your export, select Export. Sit back and wait.
