How To 

Question: 

• What is my Metro State University email address?
• How do I log in to my Metro State University email?

Employee email address and Microsoft 365 (M365) login

Your Email address is not the same as your login username

• 1) Email Address:
  • firstname.lastname@metrostate.edu (example: jane.jones@metrostate.edu)
  • If there is more than one person with the same first and last name there may be a number included in an email address (example: jane.jones.2@metrostate.edu).
  • Your email address is not used as username to access your account. You use your M365 Login to access your account.

• 2) M365 Login: yourstarid@minnstate.edu (example: xy4321ab@minnstate.edu)
  • You use your M365 to log in to access your email and M365 applications.

How to log into your M365 account

• Using a web browser go to office.com and log in using your M365 login credentials:

M365 Employee Login:

• Username: StarID@minnstate.edu
• Password: StarID password

Login Troubleshooting:

• If you receive an error message stating your password is incorrect please try:
  • Log in to D2L using only your StarID for your username (e.g. StarID username only: xy4321ab) with your StarID password. If you are able to successfully log in to D2L, you will need to reset your StarID password so that your password syncs across all the applications accessed by your account.  

How to Reset StarID Password:

• Important Note: It may be up to 30 minutes for your new password to take effect once your password is reset.

1. Browse to StarID Self Service at starid.minnstate.edu
2. Select Reset my Password
3. Select one of the options to reset your password
   • If you select “I know my email” option, you will need to select a personal email address (such as gmail, yahoo, etc.) to obtain a verification code. Do NOT use your Metropolitan State University or other Minnesota State institution email address.
4. Log in to your O365 account: Browse to: office.com and log in using your O365 login credentials (username: StarID@minnstate.edu and StarID password). Remember this can take up to 30 minutes to sync after reset.
