About Kurzweil 3000
Kurzweil 3000 offers tools for text-to-speech, reading comprehension, writing, note-taking, and more. All of these tools are available in the web version or the Windows and Mac installations. In addition, the Kurzweil 3000 Read the Web browser extension provides text-to-speech, dictionary, translation, and highlighting tools to improve reading comprehension of web content.
Account
Kurzweil 3000 is available for all students and faculty using your StarID and password through the Sign in with Microsoft option. If you are having troubles signing in please contact accessibility.resources@metrostate.edu.
Browser Extensions - Chrome, Edge, and Firefox
The Kurzweil 3000 Read the Web browser extension for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox includes text-to-speech, dictionary, translation, screenshot reader, and highlighting tools for webpages.
Setup
- Visit Other Tools for Kurzweil Version 22 and follow the provided instructions to add the correct extension to your browser.
- Pin the extension to your browser toolbar for easy access to the Read the Web tools.
- Select the puzzle piece icon (extensions) in the upper right corner of the browser for a list of available extensions then follow the instructions below for your specific browser.
- Chrome: Select the pin icon for Read the Web
- Edge: Select the eye with a slash icon (show in toolbar) for Read the Web
- Firefox: Select the settings gear icon for Read the Web, then select Pin to Toolbar
Sign In
- Select the Read the Web extension icon from your toolbar.
- A sign in window will appear below the address bar.
- Select the Microsoft icon and follow the prompts to sign in with your StarID@go.minnstate.edu (@minnstate.edu for faculty) and password.
Kurzweil3000.com
Kurzweil3000.com offers access to all tools and features without the need to install any program on your computer.
- Go to kurzweil3000.com to access Kurzweil through a web browser from any device.
- Select the Sign in with Microsoft button.
- Follow the prompts to sign on with your StarID@go.minnstate.edu (@minnstate.edu for faculty)
Windows Version 22
Kurzweil 3000 can be installed on a Windows computer. If an older version of Kurzweil 3000 has previously been installed it must be uninstalled before installing the latest version. You will also need administrator privileges on your computer.
- Go to the Document Library on My.Metro (Resources > Downloads > Software)
- Click the Download button for K3000_k3_2206_W_WebLicense.exe
- The download should begin automatically
- When the download is complete click on the file in your downloads menu to launch the installer
- Press CTRL + J if you’re not sure where to find the download
- Follow the prompts to complete the installation
Mac Version 22
- Go to the Document Library on My.Metro (Resources > Downloads > Software)
- Click the Download button for K3000_22.06.web.dmg
- The download should begin automatically
- When the download is complete, double click the file to open it
- Double click on the Kurzweil 3000.pkg icon
- An Installation window will open, follow the prompts to complete the installation
