Accessing LinkedIn Learning

LinkedIn Learning is available to all active students, faculty, and staff at Metro State University.

Finding LinkedIn Learning

The link to LinkedIn Learning can be found in a couple places on our main Metro State University website:

1. Under Current Students menu at the top of the Metro State University website, in the second column (on a computer) you can find a link to LinkedIn Learning.

If on a mobile device, under the menu in the upper right corner, LinkedIn Learning will be under the current student accordion and then about middle of that list.

2. If you scroll to the footer, under the heading Metro State Students, you will find a link there to LinkedIn Learning.

3. And you can always return to this article and select the LinkedIn Learning link above.

Logging in/Initial Setup

Initially when you select the link, you will be directed to the MinnState Single Sign On page. Enter your Microsoft credentials:

• Students: StarID@go.minnstate.edu
• Faculty and Staff: StarID@minnstate.edu

Press Next then enter your StarID password.

You will have to use your Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to then complete the login. (For more on MFA, please consider the following knowledge base articles on MFA. If you have further questions about MFA, please reach out to our service center.)

On the initial load of LinkedIn Learning there are then 4 steps to complete:

Step 1: Learning Skills.

You can select a satisfactory answer for you and then select Continue OR you can simply select the button, “I’m not sure.”

Step 2: Connect your LinkedIn Learning to your LinkedIn account.

If you do not care to link your LinkedIn Learning to your LinkedIn profile, select the “Skip for now” button.

If you do select Connect LinkedIn profile, you will be asked to enter your personal LinkedIn credentials and sign in. In the future, when you log into LinkedIn Learning, they may ask you for your personal LinkedIn credentials. The main benefit of linking your LinkedIn Learning to your LinkedIn profile is that completed course certificates in LinkedIn Learning can be published to your LinkedIn profile quite easily.

Step 3: Select at least one skill you wish to learn.

You will have to select at least one skill from the list of topics. (It will allow LinkedIn Learning the opportunity to promote some of their courses surrounding that subject of your choice.)

Select Continue once you have selected a skill.

Step 4: Set a weekly learning goal.

LinkedIn Learning gives you a couple of suggested times you could use as a goal. Simply select the time and then select the button “Set goal.”

If you do not care to set a goal, simply “Skip for now.”

At this point you can select into a top pick that LinkedIn Learning provides, “Browse My Library,” or “Discover other courses.”

Make the most of your time at Metro State University, LinkedIn Learning offers so many training opportunities that can help you succeed in many aspects of your journey in life. Word to the wise: do not neglect the soft-skill trainings that are available.

Returning to LinkedIn Learning

Again, when you select the link, you will be directed to the MinnState Single Sign On page. Enter your Microsoft credentials:

• Students: StarID@go.minnstate.edu
• Faculty and Staff: StarID@minnstate.edu

Press Next then enter your StarID password.

You will have to use your Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to complete the login.

IF you connected your LinkedIn Learning to your LinkedIn Profile, you will have to also provide the password to your LinkedIn profile with your personal credentials.

D2L Brightspace Integration with LinkedIn Learning

For faculty, learn more about integrating LinkedIn Learning within your D2L Brightspace. LinkedIn Learning may be a great supplement to your instruction.

Connecting your LinkedIn Learning account to your LinkedIn profile after initial setup

It may be that after your initial setup, that you decide you wish to connect LinkedIn Learning with your LinkedIn Profile.

1. Log into LinkedIn Learning
2. From your profile menu in the upper right corner, select Settings.

3. Scroll down and you will see a link “Connect my account” under the “Connect your LinkedIn account with your LinkedIn Learning account provided by your organization” heading. Select the link.
4. Log into your LinkedIn profile with your personal credentials.
5. The Terms and Privacy Policy are there for you.
6. If you are comfortable, select the button “Accept and continue…” Your accounts should be linked.

Detaching your LinkedIn Learning account from your LinkedIn profile

It may be that you attached LinkedIn Learning to your LinkedIn profile, and you would like to separate the two.

To do this, you will have to log into LinkedIn Learning.

1. From your profile menu in the upper right corner, select Settings.
2. Scroll down and you will see a link “Disconnect my account” under the “Disconnect your LinkedIn account from your LinkedIn Learning account provided by your organization” heading.

From then on, you will have separate accounts, one for LinkedIn Learning (using your MinnState ID) and then one for your LinkedIn profile (using your personal credentials).
