eduroam - CAT Install on Chrome OS

Overview

The eduroam wireless network is the primary, official wireless network used by Metro State University and all students, faculty, and staff should be using this as their preferred wireless network. Users connecting to eduroam are encouraged to use the Configuration Assistant Tool (CAT) when configuring their endpoint as it streamlines the configuration process and is officially supported by InCommon, the higher education body managing and supporting eduroam.   

Instructions

The following instructions are intended to support CAT installation on devices running the Chrome OS operating system.

  1. Using a web browser from your Chrome device navigate to, https://cat.eduroam.org and select the Click here to download your eduroam® installer button
  2. Select Minnesota State Colleges and Universities from the list of organizations.
  3. Select the eduroam® button.
  4. Note the URL: chrome://network.  This will be used later in the steps.  Select the Continue button at the bottom of the disclaimer.
  5. The Chrome OS CAT profile for Minnesota State Colleges and Universities will be downloaded.
  6. Find the eduroam-chromeos-MSCaU.onc file in the Chrome OS file utility to verify it was downloaded. 
  7. In your browser address bar, type chrome://network and press enter. Select Choose File, located under "Import ONC File".
  8. Select the eduroam-chromeos-MSCaU.onc file to load the CAT profile.
  9. Set the EAP method to EAP-TTLS, EAP Phase 2 authentication to PAP and scroll down to the Identity section.
  10. Enter your credentials in the Identity and Password fields (Students: StarID@go.minnstate.edu and StarID password, Employees: StarID@minnstate.edu and StarID password).
    Once entered, select the Connect button. The ChromeOS client will now connect to eduroam.
  11. In the bottom right-hand corner of your Chrome OS desktop, select the wireless icon and verify connection to the eduroam wireless network.

Additional Resources

Should your personally owned device encounter issues connecting to the Minnesota State eduroam network, or you have recently changed your password, you may need to ‘Forget Network’ wireless connection.
