Star Alert Questions and Answers:

What is Star Alert?

  • Star Alert is our free Emergency Notification System. It allows campus community members to receive text and email notifications in the event of campus-related emergencies.
  • In the event of an emergency, a Star Alert message will briefly state the location and nature of the emergency, and may include a specific action to take. Star Alert will also be used to notify you if campus is closed or if classes are delayed or cancelled.
  • Important Note: Students (who are actively enrolled in a class), staff and faculty are automatically included to receive notifications using the information they have previously provided to the university. You must register as a new user in order to make any specific contact information changes.

What types of emergencies notifications will Star Alert send me?

  • Safety threats (active shooter, bomb threats, etc.), Weather related emergencies, Health Emergencies, Fire Emergencies, Technological Emergencies, Natural Disasters, Transportation incidents, Utility emergencies, Civil Unrest, Facility related emergencies, Biological Incidents, CLERY crime related Incidents (timely warning alerts), other emergency events that impact campus operations.

Where can I log in, register, and update my contact information?

  • Individuals visiting the Star Alert portal for the first time will need to click 'Sign Me Up!' and enter in requested information to officially register and modify your record.  Complete registration guide after Q & A.
  • NOTE: When signing in, you will be asked for an Identification Code.  This code is your Minnesota State issued StarID.  Please use your Metropolitan State University email address where prompted.

What contact information can I add/modify?

  • Your personal phone number, and/or personal email address. Note: Your Metro State email can not be removed from the Star Alert system.

What happens when I leave Metro?

  • You will be automatically removed from the default notification list after your most previous term has concluded, however, if you registered for an account to make personalized changes, you will need to deactivate this to no longer receive notifications from the Star Alert system.
