Overview
Namecoach is a name recording application where you can go in and record your name so that others may know how to accurately pronounce your name. The tool is available for everyone and is located within your course in D2L Brightspace. You can record your name so your staff and students can listen to your recorded name, and you can listen to theirs to foster a better sense of inclusion and belonging.
Complete your recording once and it will be available in all of your courses. We will also use Namecoach for campus-wide events such as Commencement.
Walkthrough
Namecoach is available to all through your classes in D2L Brightspace.
Within a course, underneath the Communications dropdown menu, find Namecoach listed.
Recording your name
Before recording your name, please consider recording your name in a quiet place. The better audio you have in recording your name, the better chance people will be able to listen and understand your name pronunciation.
Select Namecoach from the Communications dropdown menu.
Select the Record Name button:
There are three means of recording your name:
Phone Option:
(Please do note that phone numbers must be registered within the United States, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Mexico, South Korea, and Canada.)
Enter your phone number, then select the Call me now! button.
Your phone will ring, listen to the options available, record your name. You will have the option to listen to your recording and rerecord.
Web Recording:
Select the Web Recorder radio button.
Select the Record button. You will most likely receive a warning which asks you to allow your microphone to be used by the browser; Allow. A countdown will begin from 3, when the countdown is done you can record your name. Select the Submit and Finish button when you are done recording.
Upload a Recording:
If you have recorded your name through a different means and you have an mp3, mp4, m4a, or a wav file recording of your name, feel free to select the third option, Uploader.
You can drag and drop your file into the uploader and then select the Submit and Finish button.
Reviewing others’ names
To review others’ names, use the Communications dropdown menu and select into NameCoach.
Below the recording interface, you will find a tab with Recorded Names. Within that tab, the participants’ names will be listed with the recordings of their names. Simply select the play button for the name and listen to the pronunciation.
Removing your recording
Currently there is no means to remove a recording. Once you have recorded a name, you can modify the recording, but you cannot delete the recording. This is a known system behavior. If anyone would like their recording removed simply send an email to support@name-coach.com and they will remove for you.
