The iPad
The iPad is a fully functional iPad.
The App
The Beam App is set on the navigation bar on the iPad. (Orange hexagon with a white “b” cut out of orange.)
Access BEAM
- Open the Beam App
- Fill in your username (Only Early Childhood Development faculty will have access)
- Leave the Pin Code empty
- Select Continue
Be VERY careful to log out of the App when you are done with the iPad.
Use of BEAM
You will enter a screen showing the camera.
Status
Top left shows an indicator if you are online.
Logout
Top right is the log out or switch user icon
Controls
- Down from the log out icon is an hourglass icon. This allows you to edit the metadata of the video. Select Prepare and your video is ready to record.
- You can use the reverse icon to switch between the front-facing and the user-facing cameras on the iPad.
- Record will also bring up the metadata for the video but instead of “prepare” it will provide a means to “begin” the recording upon completion of filling out the video information.
Once you start to record, you cannot change your camera.
Stream
In the bottom right corner, with the signal icon, you can Stream or Stream & Record.
- Stream allows you to go live for observation with VALT. Within VALT, you can then also unmute to listen to the stream.
- Stream & Record will have you fill out the metadata and then begin.
When you are Streaming & Recording, you can change your camera through the switch camera icon.
Files
In the bottom left corner, you can view Files.
There is an auto sync files which allows files, when recording is complete, to automatically upload to VALT. Otherwise, you can select the up arrow to the right of the video’s name, and the video will upload to VALT. Once a video is uploaded to VALT, it is removed from Files. (To view the view after syncing, you will have to jump into VALT.)
Before syncing, if you tap the video in Files, you can watch it.
If you slide your finger to the left while on the video line, you will have the option to download or to delete.
