Recording Rooms
Scheduling Recordings –
Why Schedule?
Scheduling allows your colleagues to know when you are reserving the spaces for recording.
It will, once started, block others from observing the room.
It will automatically start the recording at the appropriate time, and it will automatically end the recording at the end of the time allotted.
How to Schedule a recording
Currently the template for scheduling rooms are laid out in this fashion. (We can change this—we can have separate templates for Counseling and Early Childhood Development.)
- Select the scheduling icon (
), from the vertical navigation to the far left. (There is the same icon on the home page in the center top—that button simply disables or reenables the display of the schedule widget on the homepage.)
- Select the Add button (top right corner, simple plus sign)
- Select the room you wish to schedule. You can select multiple rooms. This is useful if you have a class coming to use the 106 rooms. You can label the recording the date and then schedule all 6 rooms to start and end at the same time.
- Enter Recording Name. (These recordings will be class specific so faculty, you oversee your own naming convention.)
- Enter Student Name(s)
- Select Training Program (the dropdown menu is controlled by the template—if we need to add or subtract, let Travis Morgan know.)
- Select Recording Type (again, the dropdown menu is controlled by the template—if we need to add or subtract, let Travis Morgan know.)
- Enter Date
- Enter Time
- Select Duration
- Whether this is to be repeated (options are Daily, Weekly, Monthly)
Below the Repeat dropdown menu there are then three icons: Information, Author, and Camera Control. You are on Information at this point.
- Select the second icon, Author and select yourself as the author. This will allow you to then later distribute the review to others which will be discussed later.
- Select Create when done.
Manually Recording –
Faculty can select Observe (
) from the left vertical navigation
The rooms that you have access will appear.
You can on the home page hover your mouse over the room in the Rooms widget, a record button will appear, smash Record and fill in the information of the template:
- Recording Name
- Student Name(s)
- Clinical Supervisor aka Faculty
- Training Program
- Recording Type
Below the Recording Type dropdown menu there are then five icons: Information, Evaluation, Sharing, Author, and Camera Control. You are on Information at this point.
Evaluation has no template yet developed.
Sharing – you can select recording/observation to the students or a fellow faculty colleague from the list of courses, use the dropdown menu for the class and then select the individual you wish to share it with.
For Author, you can change authorship. It is not recommended; use the share instead.
The Trash can is not supposed to be there—as you can set the retention schedule of the video. This is in error and I will see if I can remove that. Do not set a retention.
- Select the REC button to start Recording.
- While recording, you can pause or stop recording.
You will then have to stop recording.
Again, on the homepage of VALT, you can hover over the room and then pause OR stop recording.
Also, with Observation, you can pause or stop the recoding.
When you do hit Stop Recording a popup will appear asking for confirmation.
While in Observation:
You can also modify the recording information by selecting the gear icon to the left of the pause button.
You can use the comment button and add comments while observing.
Reviewing Recordings (Sharing Recordings) –
Faculty can select Review (
) from the left vertical navigation. This will allow you see all the films available to you. You may also find recent videos available to you on the homepage in the Recent recordings widget.
From the Review page, you can see the recording name, room, author, data and time of recording and duration.
If you hover over the recording, three icons will appear to the right. You can Edit, Download, or Delete.
Within Edit, you can edit Information of the video; evaluate the recording; and change the author.
Commenting on Recording
If you select the recording name, you will be brought to the video where you can watch the recording and you can add comments to the video.
Sharing Recordings

- Select Edit to activate the dropdown menu, then select Information
- Just above the Save button at the bottom, left of the screen select Sharing button

)

Upload a Video –
Also of note is that you can upload videos in Review (

Comments on Videos
As you watch a video, you can use comments. This can be during a live recording or watching after the recording is finished.
The comments will be time stamped on the video when you hit Enter/Return.
- You can use @ to mention someone.
- You can add an attachment.
- Templates are not yet developed—this may be a possible future development.
- You can change the color of your markers—to distinguish your comment marks from other students or faculty.
- You can create a duration marker for your comment that would speak to a time frame in the video.

Edit Comments
Comments can be responded to, edited, and deleted. The icons will appear as you hover your mouse over the comment field. (There does not appear to be a keyboard navigation these options.)
Transcripts
There is no transcription service attached to VALT. The file type needed is .VTT.
