This article provides student parking information.

Parking Access
- Metro State students registered in the current semester have free access to the Metro State parking ramp with their Metro State ID card. Parking access in the ramp is part of your tuition and fees.
- Prospective students or students not currently registered can access the ramp but visitor parking rates will apply.
- Consortium students who have not registered or have an issued Metro State ID card do not have parking access at the ramp. Consortium students can park in the ramp; visitor parking rates apply.
- Motorcycle parking is available on the first floor of the parking ramp.
Accessible Parking
An accessible permit is required to be displayed when parking in accessible parking space.
- The parking ramp has accessible parking on each level of the ramp.
- The university courtyard has accessible parking for students.
- The university library has two accessible parking spaces in the east lot.
Parking Ramp Visitor Rates
Payment for visitor parking can be made in the lane or on the first-floor parking lobby pay station. Visa, Mastercard, Discover cards are accepted. Mobile pay is not offered.
- Up to one hour $4
- One – two hours $6
- Two or more hours $8 (all day parking)
Semester Start Free Parking Access
- The parking ramp gate arms will be set up to allow free access at the beginning of the semester. This free access period is generally 10-12 days and allows new students to come to campus and obtain an ID card.
- The ramp gate arms will open automatically during the free access period.
- Email communications will be sent out with the dates for the free access period. Once the free access period ends, students will need to use their Metro ID card for free access to the parking ramp.
Surface Lot Parking
Courtyard Parking (Between Founders Hall, New Main, and St Johns Hall)
- The courtyard has accessible parking for Metro students, employees, and visitors with accessible parking permits.
- Four visitor parking spaces are available in the courtyard and posted as 1 ½ hour time limits.
- Visitor space limits are strictly enforced and citations issued if parking time limits are exceeded.
- Parking in the continuous drive around lane is a fire lane an not allowed.
Library Visitor Parking
- The east library surface parking lot are posted as 2-hour parking. Parking citations are issued for parking, which exceeds the 2-hour limit.
- Students attending classes at the Metro State library should park in the Metro ramp where unlimited parking is provided. Most Metro courses last for three hours.
Minneapolis College Parking for a Metro class
- Students enrolled in the current semester at a Metro class held at Minneapolis College will have access to the Minneapolis College parking ramp with their Metro State ID card.
Parking Violations
- Parking that exceeds posted parking time limits (courtyard or library surface lots) will result in a parking violation.
- Vehicles parking in motorcycle parking will receive parking citations.
- Using your Metro State ID card at the parking ramp card readers to allow another person to enter or exit the ramp is a violation of university parking policy and could result in other actions.
Citation-Appeals
- An appeal should be based on the fact the violation notice was issued contrary to the Metro State Parking rules and regulations or in error.
- Submit a Parking Citation Appeal Request
- If action by appeal results in a fine being levied the appellant shall pay the citation within ten (10) working days. Payment for parking citations can be made at Founders Hall/Gateway Services.
To facilitate quicker response to citation appeals, improve efficiency and make better use of time spend on appeals, the Campus Operations or Security Director may use previous action by the appeals committee to dismiss a citation or downgrade it to a warning with the particular citation receiving a specific review by the parking appeals committee.
Emergency Phones and Speakers
Blue Light Emergency Phones
Emergency code blue phones are available on each floor of the parking ramp. They have one panic button that, when pressed, dials directly into the safety officer's cell phone. They are to be used for emergency calls only.
Public Emergency Speakers
Exterior emergency speakers are located in the parking ramp and other exterior locations on campus. The speakers will broadcast university emergency messages to alert visitors during an emergency situation.
