Single Sign-On (SSO)

Article Type: General Information

Question:

  • What is Single Sign-On (SSO)?

Answer:

  • Single Sign-On allows you to sign in once per session for all configured Metropolitan State applications.
  • Single Sign-On (SSO) alters how you enter your username:
    • Students: StarID@go.minnstate.edu
    • Employees: StarID@minnstate.edu
  • SSO means that signing into one application with your MinnState login allows you to access other Metropolitan State resources without having to sign in multiple times.
  • SSO can reduce the number of times you need to login during the day and provides access to other services and websites for collaboration and sharing.
  • You will not need to re-enter your minnstate login for those applications that are participating in SSO.
    • NOTE: The only time you may be asked to re-enter your username and password may be if you have changed your StarID password recently.
  • Some applications will still require you to enter your StarID and password. These applications often have higher risk data and confidential information such as Payroll.
  • If you log into any Minnesota State (minnstate.edu) provided resources, you may have to change your username from starID@minnstate.edu to starID@metrostate.edu to log in to a Metropolitan State University resource.

What does Single Sign-On (SSO) look like?

  • When you see this screen, you are visiting a Single Sign-On (SSO) application (You have probably seen this when logging into your Metro State e-mail).
  • Use your MinnState login information as reflected below:

  • After you enter your MinnState login, you will be directed to another page asking for your StarID password:

  • After successfully logging in, you will be prompted again asking if you want to remain signed in:

  • After selecting "Yes", you are now signed in using SSO.
  • This will allow you to sign into other SSO applications without entering your credentials again.
